Devotion on Peace in a Time of Tragedy

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.” — Matthew 5:9

What has happened in Bondi has shaken our hearts deeply. Violence, hatred, and the targeting of innocent Jewish people remind us how broken our world still is. In moments like this, peace can feel distant, even impossible. Yet Scripture reminds us that God’s peace was never meant to ignore pain it was meant to meet us in it.

Jesus lived in a world filled with oppression, injustice, and violence. Still, He spoke words of peace, not as denial of evil, but as God’s answer to it. “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you” (John 14:27). This peace does not come from circumstances improving, but from God’s presence abiding.

As believers, we grieve with those who grieve, we stand against hatred, and we pray for peace especially for the Jewish community and for all who feel unsafe and targeted. We also choose to respond not with fear or anger, but with prayer, love, and hope.

Today, let us ask God to guard our hearts, heal our land, and make us instruments of His peace in a hurting world.

Prayer:  Lord, our hearts are heavy. We grieve for the lives lost and stand with those who are hurting. Let Your peace reign where violence has tried to rule. Heal our community, protect the vulnerable, and help us be peacemakers who reflect Your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
