The Power of the Midnight Intercessor
Devotion: The Power of the Midnight Intercessor
Scripture: “Because of his persistence he will rise and give him as many as he needs.” Luke 11:8
In Jesus’ parable, a man receives a late-night visitor, but he has nothing to offer him. So he goes to his friend’s house at midnight and knocks persistently. Even though it is inconvenient and uncomfortable, he refuses to go home empty-handed. His friend eventually gets up, not because of friendship alone, but because of shameless persistence.
This is a picture of intercessory prayer. There are times in our lives when someone we love needs help healing, breakthrough, restoration, provision. And like the man in the story, we may feel like we have “nothing to set before them.” But instead of giving up, Jesus invites us to be midnight intercessors people who stand in the gap when others are in need.
Midnight represents moments of: Crisis Desperation Urgency Spiritual battle And yet, it is also the moment when heaven opens for those who knock and keep on knocking. God is not annoyed by your prayers. He is moved by your persistence. He responds to those who refuse to quit. When you intercede for family, church, the lost, the hurting you are knocking on heaven’s door on their behalf. And Jesus promises: your Father will rise and give you what is needed.
Prayer Lord, make me a midnight intercessor. When others are in need, let me be someone who knocks, prays, and believes until the answer comes. Give me persistence in prayer and compassion for those who need You. Amen.
