Is Going to Church Good for you
Not long ago, someone asked me a simple yet thought-provoking question: “Is going to church actually good for you?” I smiled and said, “Absolutely!”
But not just because I’m a pastor or because I’ve personally experienced the blessing of church life—there’s real evidence that shows attending church regularly is incredibly good for you. God Designed Us for Community From the very beginning, God said, “It is not good for man to be alone.” (Genesis 2:18)
He created us for relationship—with Him and with others. When we gather together as believers, we encourage one another, pray for one another, and grow together in faith. The writer of Hebrews reminds us: “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another.” — Hebrews 10:25
Church Is Good for the Soul—and the Body Modern research backs up what the Bible has said all along. Studies show that people who are part of a church community experience greater hope, peace, and purpose.
The Oxford Handbook of Religion and Health compiled hundreds of studies and found that people who regularly attend church or practice their faith tend to experience:
Higher levels of well-being, hope, and optimism
A stronger sense of purpose and meaning
Greater social support and belonging
Lower rates of depression
Fewer suicidal thoughts or attempts
These findings confirm that being part of a healthy church family doesn’t just nourish your spirit—it strengthens your mind and heart too. God’s design truly works! Healthy Churches Bring Healthy People When you gather with other believers each week—worshipping, praying, serving, and learning—you’re not just attending an event; you’re stepping into the environment where God heals, restores, and transforms lives.
Prayer- Lord, thank You for placing me in Your family—the Church. Help me never to take for granted the blessing of fellowship, worship, and encouragement. Strengthen our local churches across this nation so that more people can experience Your love, healing, and hope. Amen.
